One of Jacksonville’s most unique features is the St. Johns River that runs right through out city. There is actually a Northbank and Southbank of downtown. Our river defines out great city and is one of our greatest assets. Here are some great facts to check out:
- Longest River in Florida: The St. Johns River is the longest river in Florida, stretching for approximately 310 miles (500 kilometers). It flows northward, making it one of the few rivers in the United States that flows in this direction.
- Unique Flora and Fauna: The St. Johns River is home to a diverse range of plant and animal species, including some that are found nowhere else in the world. The river and its surrounding wetlands provide habitats for various bird species, fish, alligators, and manatees, among others.
