Saturday, July 27 marks the 5th annual “Make it Happen” neighborhood event, to help transform part of Springfield’s Dancy Terrace. The event starts at 9 a.m. and is located on the 10th St. side of Dancy Terrace. There will be signs to help you find your way. Preservation S.O.S. (PSOS) maintains court grounds monthly and keeps a watchful eye over this part of the community, but they need your help!
PSOS owns 8 of the 24 bungalows and has set the goal to accomplish the following: complete wood repairs on our bungalows, enclose the crawl spaces, paint the window boards black & add sashes, and add minor landscaping.
Your help is important to the preservation of Springfield and historic areas of Intown Jacksonville. Together, we can help continue to keep Springfield and areas such as Dancy Terrace beautiful for all to enjoy. If you’re able to help, PSOS is requesting donations for the following supplies:
- 4×8 sheets of plastic lattice
- 2x4s (at least 4′ long, 8′ long preferable)
- (used fine) gallons of trim paint
- Paint brushes
- Trash bags
- Paint cups and buckets
- Paint rags
- Cases of water
- Cases of Gatorade
The weather is likely to be hot and there is always a chance of typical summertime rain. So, if you’re thinking of attending here are some things for you to keep in mind:
- Bring coolers of ice, water or other hydrating drink (soda or caffeinated drinks are not recommended) sunscreen, sweat towel, hat, sunglasses or safety goggles, umbrellas or other shade awning, chairs to relax.
- You can also bring some of your own yard supplies for activities such as:
- Rakes, Gloves, Trimmers, weed whackers, paint brushes, skil saw, cordless drill, empty buckets and paint cups
For the “Make it Happen” volunteers, a barbeque lunch will be available, but feel free to bring your own snacks as needed for refueling throughout the day. The best options to keep energized would be non-sugary snacks such as fruit and granola bars.
Following the event will be an Open House from 6 – 7 p.m. with a minimum of 14 of the bungalows open for interior viewing. The Open House will coincide with the Main Street Car Cruise so cruisers will be able to see the slow, but steady, transformation of Dancy Terrace. PSOS is looking forward to showing off all of the hard work put into preserving the historic area. The open house will offer wine, cheese and other delicious eats.
For anyone interested, you can always make a donation for “Make it Happen” at www.preservationsos.org. Donations will also be accepted the day of the event. For questions regarding the event, please email email@example.com for more information.
